Building trust and creating shared value

12 JULY 2024

Over the last 5 years, we have been conducting early-stage exploration activities at Project Roosevelt in northern Alaska.

We continue to undertake regular engagement with local tribal villages and the Doyon Native Corporation. Engagements include face to face community meetings and webinars where we share project updates and activities and hear community feedback.

In FY24, we provided funding for Memorial Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s potlatches (a name for traditional gatherings). We also sponsored two cultural Spring Festivals that included dog sled races, snowshoe races, a biathlon and music jams. This support contributed to the cultural wellbeing and strengthening of the community by bringing regional villagers together around a celebration of tribal traditions. The events were well attended by regional villages, including Allakaket, Hughes and Huslia.

Additionally, Project Roosevelt employed 17 Doyon community members as pad builders, core box builders, geological and reclamation technicians and camp attendants and cooks. We supported local Doyon contractors by hiring pad builders through Native Corporation, K'oyitl'ots'ina Ltd. Providing employment and procurement opportunities to Tribal stakeholders is one of the ways we create shared value. We are committed to providing support to build the capability of Tribal Peoples and businesses where we have a presence.
