Hillside's learnership program designed for people living with disabilities
At our Hillside Aluminium operation in Richards Bay, South Africa, nine people are working on site as part of our learnership program designed for people living with disabilities.
The two-year, practical and theory-based courses help people living with disabilities advance their careers through training in areas like business administration, information control management, communication and information technology.
Businesses Administration Services course participant, Simphiweyinkosi Mthembu, said he was excited about a future in business.
“Hillside has opened up skills development opportunities for people with disabilities and has helped uplift the standards of learning,” Simphiweyinkosi said.
Participant Thembeka Gamede also praised Hillside for its efforts to ensure inclusivity.
"What I like about the company is there are so many opportunities for people living with disabilities," Thembeka said.
"We are all equal and I'm learning how to work in a company as a disabled person who is new to the industry."
