Mozal helps build Mozambique’s largest high school

07 FEBRUARY 2022

Mozal funds the construction of a school which will cater for 5,000 students

Our Mozal Aluminium operation has helped to build the largest high school in Mozambique since the nation’s independence from Portugal in 1975.

Named in honour of Mozambique’s President, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, who presided over the opening ceremony, the school will cater to the education needs of around 5,000 students.

It will also significantly reduce the long walks to and from school for many young people in Maputo Province.

In his speech, President Nyusi said: “The construction of this school was implemented with Mozal funds and today, Mozal graces us this new school. It is a work that makes us all proud.

“On behalf of all Mozambican people, I congratulate and thank Mozal for the construction of this school.”

The school facilities include 48 classrooms, a 500-person auditorium, a library, a computer room, two administrative blocks, water reservoirs, a canteen, a multipurpose sports field, and a soccer field.

In Mozal’s 20 years of operation in Mozambique, it has supported the construction of six schools and the refurbishment of a further 12.
