Our people among top 100 inspirational women

Three of our employees have been included among the 2018 Top 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining, which was launched in London this week by Women in Mining UK.

Jenny ten Broeke, Overland Bauxite Conveyor Supervisor at Worsley Alumina, Nicole Duncan, Chief People and Legal Officer, and April Richardson-Schuch, Work Management Planner – Electrical at Worsley, were among 642 women nominated for inclusion in the 2018 edition of the list.

Women in Mining UK compiled the list based on the nominees’ visible contributions above and beyond their daily responsibilities.

The 100 women from 28 countries were selected by not just being “great at their jobs”, but also by being inspiring based on their perseverance in the face of adversity, their trailblazing approach to the industry and/or their activities to empower others, including being a voice and role model for diversity and inclusion.

South32’s Non-executive Director, Dr Xiaoling Liu, is also included in the 100 women.

Nicole, Jenny and April attended the launch event in London with over 50 other women who featured in the listing.

Nicole said: “It’s been a real honour to be included in the list, but I’m also pleased about the recognition South32 has gained from having a number of women in the Top 100. It means a lot for women in our industry to see other women around the globe who are influential and impactful.”

April said: “It’s been a spectacular experience for me to be included in the Top 100 Inspirational Women in Mining and I’m honoured to have met so many other inspiring women with so much experience.”

Jenny said: “The Top 100 Inspirational Women in Mining shows that we all have the opportunity to have a positive influence on others and make a difference.”
