It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our inaugural Chair, David Crawford AO.
David made a significant contribution to South32 in its early years. He led the development of our purpose and strategy which continue to guide us in all that we do, underpinned by our values of care, trust, togetherness and excellence.
He also established our board and the governance framework under which we continue to operate today. He remained Chair until he retired from our Board in 2019.
South32 Chair Karen Wood and CEO Graham Kerr, paid tribute to David’s contribution to the South32 Board and the company.
Karen said: “As a company we were fortunate to start life under David’s chairmanship. He brought immense intellect and character with the finest qualities of service evident in all he did. He exemplified our values, and our company remains in his debt.”
Graham said: “David worked tirelessly to ensure South32 was well positioned for life as an independent global resources company. His extensive experience in business, particularly in the resources sector, served the company well in its formative years.”
As South32, we extend our deepest sympathies to Maureen and his loved ones.
