We’ve pledged R50 million

09 APRIL 2020

We’ve pledged R50 million to help the local communities surrounding our South African operations

As always, we’re committed to supporting our communities, and that’s more important now than ever.

That’s why we’ve pledged R50 million to help the local communities surrounding our South African operations combat COVID-19.

Chief Operating Officer, Mike Fraser, said: “We understand the challenge ahead is significant, however, we can overcome it by working together and we stand ready to support where we can.”

This funding includes:

  • R40 million to support initiatives in the communities around our operations, which is in addition to the health projects that are currently underway as part of our Social and Labour Plans; and
  • R10 million to the South Africa Solidarity Fund, which will provide assistance to those who need it most. As a significant business and employer in South Africa, we are committed to supporting the efforts of the government in preventing the spread of the virus.

We continue to work with South African local government and health authorities in the areas where we operate to understand how we can help and support their efforts. This includes supplying water, essential hygiene and medical packs and supplies and running public health education campaigns.

We are also collaborating with our peers in the Northern Cape and Mpumalanga to leverage our combined resources and offer a single coordinated response to the relevant authorities.
